Alfred Boe was born in Rolling Forks Township, Pope County, MN, the first son of Nils and Carrie Paulson Boe. He worked at home until his 20s when he moved to North Dakota. He married Mary Maud Gunderson on March 17, 1908. Alfred and Mary had four children: Verdjie Viola Boe Larson, Gailon Orville Boe, Eleanor Genevieve Boe Lotvedt Skaaren, and Eldon Lee Boe. He farmed most of his life. Alfred died on December 7, 1960.
