Monsignor James Horan, PP
Beloved Pastor of Knock, 1963-1986
Born Partry, Co Mayo.
Monsignor Horan was responsible for bringing "Horan International Airport" to Knock. He led a strong campaign despite lack of support from Government. While serving in Knock he invited Pope John Paul 11 to visit the Shrine in 1979.
Sadly Monsignor Horan died while on a Pilgrimage to Lourdes but lived to see "his dream", Knock Airport opened in May 1986.
His remains were the first to be flown into this international Airport, and he is buried adjacent to the Basilica at Knock Shrine.
