John was a farmer on the Falmouth District of Stafford County, Virginia. He was not married.
On Thursday May 1, 1924, in the Fredericksburg Free-Lance newspaper reported that: Mr. John W. Anthon, aged seventy years, residing near Leeland, Stafford County, died suddendly following a heart attack at his home Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock. Mr Anthon was engaged in splitting wood in the yard, and a little later came into the house speechless. In a few minutes life was extinct. The deceased was unmarried and is survived by two brothers, Messrs. James, Anthon, of Fredericksburg; George Anthon, of Baltimore, and two sisters, Mrs. James Price of Washington, and Miss Mary Anthon, of Leeland. Funeral Thursday at 2 p.m. from the home, with interment in the family burying ground.
