Daughter of John Christopher and Emilie Lucille Davis Wieters. Erna married Cyrus Thompson Sloan on April 23, 1946.

MARION — Mrs. Erna Wieters Sloan, 86, of Marion, wife of the late Cyrus T. Sloan, Jr. and daughter of the late Dr. John C. and Lucille Davis Wieters of Charleston, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at McLeod Hospice House after a brief illness.

Born in Charleston, SC, she moved to Marion after her marriage in 1946. Mrs. Sloan was a homemaker. She taught Sunday School for a number of years, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and supported her children in their various activities. She was a founding member of the Acacia Garden Club and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent.

Mrs. Sloan is survived by two sons, Cyrus T. Sloan, III (Betty) of Marion and Randall D. Sloan of Pawleys Island; a daughter, Cynthia Lucille Sloan of Marion; a brother, Charles Wieters of Brevard, NC; 2 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

A brother, John Wieters, preceded her in death.

Graveside funeral services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. with the Reverend Richard Archer officiating and directed by Richardson Funeral Home.
