"Death Plucks a Dainty Flower"
20 Mar 1896, Dayton, Washington [source not stated]
Died - In Dayton, on Sunday evening, March 29, 1896, Maudie, youngest daughter of Mrs. Anna (sic Alice) Bishop, aged 9 years, 2 months and 2 days. The funeral occurred from the residence, Third Street, on Tuesday at 11 AM, Rev. F.B. Doane officiating. Little Maudie was an exceptionally quiet, well dispositioned and lovable child, and her death was mourned not alone by the grief-stricken mother and family, but by many little friends who wept as if their hearts would break as they gazed for the last time on the peaceful features of their one-time companion with whom it was impossible to quarrel in life or against whom not one could have ever had anything but a feeling of love. A little life full of gentlest emotions, ever bent toward the wishes of others, always in harmony with classmates and friends -- it was one of God's daintiest plants plucked in the bud to bloom among heaven's fairest flowers. To the mother, sister and brother, this community extends heartfelt sympathy in their bereavement. Trouble oft-repeated has been this widowed mother's lot -- the death of a husband and elder daughter, the loss of property by fire and the present bitter grief, is hard to bear; but there should be uplifting consolation in the words of our Savior: "Suffer little children to come unto me, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven."
