Virginia was the daughter of John W. Wood and Alphonsa Gough. She married T. Clayton Melvin in about 1903 and they were the parents of seven children.

Mrs. Virginia M. Buckson wife of the late Rev. Wilson Buckson, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lillian Shively, December 16, 1947. Funeral services were held from Rawlins Funeral Home, Greensboro, Thursday afternoon with Rev. A.L. Grey and Rev. G.S. Ross officiating. Interment was made in Greensboro cemetery. She has lived a Christian life from childhood, was a kind and loving mother and will be greatly missed by her friends and neighbors who showed by their many acts of kindness and respect during her illness and death. The following children from her former marriage to Mr. Clayton Melvin survive: Mr. Earl Melvin, Magnolia, Del: Mrs. Lillian Shively, Goldsboro; Mrs. Ethel Timmons, Pittsville; Mr. Wilfred Melvin, Lewes, Del.; Mrs. Pauline Willis, Chester, Pa.; Mrs. Ruth Burrows, Hollywood, Cal.; thirteen grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Sylvester and Miss Bertie Wood, both of Dover; one aunt, Mrs. Warren Bossert, of Philadelphia, and one uncle, Rev. George E. Wood, of Dover.
