"Jack" was the son of Clarence Guy Herd and and Virgie Ethel Gray. As a young child, he grew up on a farm and learned to hunt and fish, which he grew to enjoy.
Jack was in the US Navy during World War II and served on the ship : Eisele DE-34 Oct 18, 1943 and on the ship Hoggatt Bay Jan. 26, 1945. While in the service he worked with electronics as a radar-man.
After the war, Jack came home to Oklahoma and met his future wife, Doris Anna Bailey.
He owned and ran his own business - selling and repair work for appliances. Doris often helped out in the family business.
