"Guy" Herd was born to Andrew Jackson and Hetty (Ryle) Herd. He came from a large family and was raised in Missouri.
On Aug 3, 1913, Guy married Virginia Ethel "Virgie" Gray. Guy was a farmer and he and Virgie moved to Chandler Co. Oklahoma where they were able to farm and raise their family.
Guy was only about 51 years of age when he died. It was a terrible accident as he was trying to break a horse. He was thrown and had to spend much time in bed to heal but he caught pneumonia and died.

Services for C.G. Herd Held Sunday
Guy Herd, 51 year old Kendrick farmer, died Friday April 20 in an Oklahoma City hospital from back and other injuries received two weeks before. Herd was leading a horse when he came entangled in the rope and the horse bolted, dragged him down the road and threw him into the abatement of a concrete culvert. He was taken to Davinport and placed under the care of Dr. U.E. Nickels. When the extend of his injuries was learned he was sent to an Oklahoma City hospital where he died two weeks later.
Funeral services were held Sunday April 22 at the Methodist church in Kendrick with Rev. Hicks of Drumsight officiating. Burial was in the New Zion cemetery.
Clarence Guy Herd, son of Andrew Jackson and Hettie Herd, was born January 24, 1894 at Lutie, Missouri. He came to Kendrick in 1913 and lived in that community until his death.
He was united in marriage to Vergie Ethel Gray, Aug. 3, 1913. To their union ten children were born, three preceeded him in death.
He was united with the Fairview General Baptist church of Dugginsville, Mo. at an early age.
Survivors are his wife and seven children, Henry and Jack Herd, who are in the navy; Edna Cherry, Elsa Myers, and Myrtle Garrison of Kendrick and Kenneth and Blanch Herd of the home address; six grandchildren and five sisters, Miss Lou Herd of Portales, N.M.; Mrs. Joe Garrison, El Paso, Texas; Mrs. John Clarkson, Mrs. Polk Cochran and Miss Daisy Herd of Chandler; seven brothers, Jim Herd, Chula Vista, CA; Clyde Herd, Broken Arrow; Clemon Herd, Canadian Texas; Ross Herd, Davenport; Hugh Herd, Chowchilla, CA; Kenneth and Larkin Herd of Chandler, and host of relatives and friends.
