Jan 1986: Cyrus Dewey Shumate, 85, a retired Christiana Machine Company employee, died after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Ola Stamper Shumate, who died in 1973. He retired in 1971 from the machine company, where he worked 28 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and had formerly been active at both Christiana and Atglen United Methodist churches. Surviving are five sons and one daughter; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dora Dolinger. (Lancaster New Era)
