1936: (source of obit is unknown; signed by her son, Ira). Mrs. Ludema C. Shumate, 74, died April 16th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. C. Dolinqer at Green Cove, Virginia, after a lingering illness. (She was the daughter of James Curel Hall and Margaret Richardson). Surviving are two sons, Dewey of Green Cove, Virginia, Ira of Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania; and two daughters, Mrs. Dora Dolinger and Mrs. Olivine Walls; two brothers, Byrum Hall of California and E.M. (Elbert Martin) Hall of Idaho, and three sisters, Mrs. Frank (Caroline Elizabeth) Rose of White Top, Virginia, Mrs. Dan (Marena Almeda) Porter of California and Mrs. M.J. (Martha Jane) Elledqe of Hays, North Carolina and one half sister, Miss Ida Hall of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. One son, (James) Arthur, and two daughters, Ethel and Bessie preceded her death. She leaves 26 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. A.F. Miller at the White Top Baptist Church, Sunday, April 18th at 11:00 o'clock. Mrs. Shumate, was a member of the Baptist church for 38 years. "She was ready to go meet her Savior and friends, and were left to mourn our loss, but it is her gain, and she shall be happy."
