Mary was widowed about 1814. She left VA in 1816 and brought her children to Highland Co., OH, where she is enumerated on the 1820 census as head of household in Brush Creek Twp.
David was a blacksmith and moved over into Adams Co. He married Elizabeth Metz on 14 Aug 1826 (family records) or 1828 (transcribed marriage records). They made their home in the little village of Jacksonville until about 1854, when David & Elizabeth and their children who were still at home, moved to the vicinity of Rome (also known as Stout), Green Twp., Adams Co.
David & Elizabeth had twelve children: Mary Catherine (McNary); George J.; Elizabeth (Porter); William Harrison; David K.; Thomas Jefferson; Samuel Marion; Louisa M. (Walker); Anna May (Bennett); Albert Jesse; John R.; & Martha Ellen (Test).
Elizabeth died in 1864 and David married Sarah McGovney before 1870.
David's gravestone was "missing" for many years. It was definitely not visible in the late 1960's when my parents & I walked the cemetery looking for it. And it was not visible in the 1980's when Adams Co. genealogical society members walked the cemetery and recorded the gravestones. Find A Grave volunteer Debbie J. was at the cemetery looking for another gravestone and came across David's and noticed it wasn't in the genealogical society's booklet. Apparently the tombstone had fallen and was covered by soil & grass for many, many years. Perhaps freezing and thawing brought it to the surface. Thanks to Debbie for finding it. (And now wife Elizabeth's gravestone, which was also "missing," has been found; see her memorial.)
