WENATCHEE - Hazel F. Sparks, 100, a resident of the Wenatchee Valley for the past 88 years, died Thursday, April 14, 1994, in Colonial Vista Convalescent Center.

She was born May 5, 1893, to Hans and Mary (Gustafson) Peterson in Gunnison, Utah. The family moved to Seattle when she was 11 and to Wenatchee in 1906. She returned to Seattle, where she completed her education at Broadway High School. At the age of 21, she became a registered voter in Douglas County and never missed voting in an election.

She married J. Sheridan Sparks on Dec. 26, 1914, in Seattle. They made their home in East Wenatchee, where they were orchardists. Her husband preceded her in death on June 18, 1962.

Mrs. Sparks was a member of the Eastmont Presbyterian Church and a member and first president of the East Wenatchee Garden Club. At that time, the garden club was responsible for naming the streets in East Wenatchee.

Survivors include her son, Herschel, East Wenatchee; one daughter, Piccola H. Sparks, Wenatchee; and numerous grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son in 1969, four brothers and three sisters.
