Helen Marie Closs, 84, of Bryan passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

Helen was born on October 19, 1924, in Summitville, Tennessee, to William and Birdie Scruggs. She was an active member of the Methodist Church, attending Velasco, Freeport and Alexander United Methodist Churches.

Helen lived her life to the fullest and kept her sense of humor to the very end. She loved traveling and was an avid fisher. Helen was a Southern belle to the "T," a lady who always looked her best, no matter the occasion.

She was a devoted, faithful and loving wife and a mother who devoted her entire life to her children, participating in PTA, the Scouts and many other activities that her children were involved in. There were always children running around the house, both hers and children who lived in the neighborhood. Birthdays were a big deal for Helen. She loved planning and throwing parties and making a celebration out of them.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Riley Scruggs; two grandchildren, Randy Sparks and Gerald Pyka; and a daughter-in-law, Tomlyn Pruett-Closs.

Survivors include her beloved husband of more than 57 years, D.M. "Dot" Closs; children and their spouses, Lana and Jerry Booher, Monroe and Trisha Closs, Becky and Ron Clymer, Tom and Robin Closs and Tim and Lindakay Closs; sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Judson Quicksall; grandchildren, Jason Booher, Matt, Ben and Austin Closs, T.J. and Taylor Closs, Tristan Closs, Brittany Moore and Rachel White; great-grandchildren, Addie, Alyssa, Nicholas, Jackson, Dylan, Skyler, Madeline and Zoe; and many friends.
