George W. Flemming served as a Private in Company H of the 87th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the American Civil War.

He had enlisted at Brooklyn, New York, and he was mustered into Company H on October 26, 1861.

He was 30 years of age at the time of his enlistment.

The 87th New York Volunteer Infantry was consolidated with the 40th New York Volunteer Infantry on September 6, 1862. Private Fleming was transferred to Company H of the 40th New York at that time. He was later transferred to Company B on an unknown date.

He was listed as being wounded in the leg on July 3, 1863, the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg.

NOTE: His name was spelled "George W. Fleming" on some documents.
