Sp4 Davis Uptain. Born in Alabama, he became a resident of Hamlet, Richmond County, North Carolina.

Sp4 Davis Uptain was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, Sp4 Uptain served our country until November 8th, 1965 in South Vietnam. He was 21 years old and was married. It was reported that Davis died from small arms fire during Operation Hump, near Hill-65, Northeast of Bein Hoa Airfield. His body was recovered. Davis was born on February 5th, 1944 in Fayette, Alabama. Sp4 Uptain is on panel 03E, line 038 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 3 years.

He was my childhood friend. I thought a lot of Davis. Like an older brother to me. 1345 Hwy 82W, Prattville, Al 36067, Dennis Reed.

He was the Son of Mr George Lee Uptain and Mrs Mary Roberta Nelson Uptain.

he served with the 173rd Engineer Company, 173rd Airborne Airborne Brigade, USARV.

He was awarded The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
