Ruby Jewel Amidon, age 96 of Burnet passed away suddenly Monday, May 7, 2012. She was born October 15, 1915 in Jollyville Community of Travis County to Booker Bird and Kate (Hamilton) Bird.
Sewing and canning were some of the hobbies she enjoyed that were a part of her life as a homemaker. She was a faithful Christian who belonged to Victory Baptist Church. Although named Ruby, she was known to many as "Mom".
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Wilburn and by sons Gilbert, Carl, and Willis, six brothers, three sisters and one great grandson. She is survived by sons Calvert Amidon and wife Ruth of Proctor and Doyle Amidon of Burnet and by daughter Kathryn Dooley and husband Buster of Burnet. Fifteen grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren and other relatives survive Ruby.
A visitation for family and friends to gather and honor Ruby will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 9th at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 10th at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet presided by Reverend James Hoover. Interment will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery in Bertram. Those named as pallbearers are Allen Dooley, Dan Dooley, Bryan Dooley, Russell Tschoerner, Craig Tschoerner, and Charles Amidon, III. Leslie Holder was named as an honorary pallbearer.
