Jessie Canada, 85, of Bedford, died at 7:50 pm on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Mitchell Manor in Mitchell, IN.

Born May 14, 1924, in Wayne Co., KY, he was the son of James and Netha (Carrender) Canada. He married Velma Hardwick in June of 1947. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Navy and of the Protestant faith. He had worked as a press operator for Lear Seigler and as a security guard for Bandy Coal Company.

Survivors include five daughters, Sue Strunk and husband, Sam, Janet Ritchey and husband, Claude all of Bedford, Mary Morrow and husband, Cecil, Debra Richardson and husband, Clark all of Monticello, KY, Teresa Meadows and husband, Ken of Larville, IN; two sons, Farrell Canada and wife, Shelly of Bronston, KY, Mark Canada and friend, Connie of Somerset, KY; twelve grandchildren, Stacy Strunk and wife, Mandy, Beverly West and husband, Ben, Teddy Morrow and wife, Brenda, Kristie Strauser and husband, Joe, Brian Morrow and wife, Cindy, Sarah Canada, Jason Ritchey, Shannon Phillips and wife, Tabatha, Derick Phillips, Josh Canada, Kenny and Garrett Meadows; two step grandchildren, Alex (Michael) Bray and John Fryman; three great grandchildren, Jordan and Tyler Morrow and Liberty Strauser; one step great grandchild, Amanda West. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, Luchen, Ernest, Hurstle (Al), Edward, Gilbert, Joe, Luther, Milton, Charlie, and Lloyd; two sisters, Luta New and Lula Roberts.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 24th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Marty Speer officiating. Burial will follow in the Patton Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion.
