It was at Hopkinsville that Private Wallace and his father, James Curry Wallace, joined the unit. During the Battle of Perryville, somewhere on the Ohio River his father was killed on 06 May 1864, by a shot from a Union gunboat.
In this ambrotype, he is pictured wearing a black felt hat and gray, seven-button shell jacket. He is carrying two revolvers in holsters and holds a 36 caliber 1851 Colt Navy or a Confederate manufactured Griswold revolver. His belt plat is a captured U. S. belt plate which he has turned upside down - a common Confederate practice and sign of disrespect.
