SEARS FUNERAL ON TUESDAY

Funeral services for George R. Sears, 84, a life-long resident of the Cottage Grove area, will be held Tuesday morning.

Sears died Friday at Cottage Grove Hospital, where he was taken Aug. 19 after suffering a seizure at his home.

Sears was born Feb. 22, 1882, at Mount View, three miles east of Cottage Grove. He was the son of George and Sarah Ann Sears, pioneer settler in the area.

From the time he was a boy, until his retirement in 1962, Sears was a farmer in the Cottage Grove area. He formerly farmed in the Delight Valley area near Cottage Grove.

He is survived by his wife, Emma, whom he married Jan. 1, 1918, by a son, Robert H. Sears of Cottage Grove; a daughter, Mrs. Elwyn (Violet) Bales of Pasco, Wash.; by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Sears was a past member of the Creswell Grange and in Circle Neighbors Woodcraft of the Woodmen of the world. He also was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Cottage Grove.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mills Mortuary, Cottage Grove. Interment will be in Walker Cemetery. ~~~

Daughter Violet (Sears) Bales was born 9 DEC 1913. She married Elwyn Bales. She died 1 MAR 2002 in Mesa, Franklin County, Washington.
