She graduated high school in Hamlet and worked for the Seaboard Railway, and in 1949 married Louis Avery Corning III of Hamlet. She sang in her church choir, played the organ, and was church secretary at both Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church in Tarboro, and the First Presbyterian Churches in New Bern, NC and Bristol, TN. She enjoyed her flower gardening and watching the birds feed in her backyard.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Louis; three children, Mary Jane Corning Rosenbaum and her husband, Al, both of Virginia; Melva Elizabeth "Beth" Corning, and Louis Avery Corning IV, and his wife, Dottie, all of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Amanda Lee & Adam Collier Rosenbaum, both of Virginia, Elizabeth Shelton Dellert of London, England, and Mary Hamilton & Natalie Elizabeth Corning, both of North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Hamilton & Mary Russell Hamilton.
