Revolutionary War Private


"JONATHAN NYE (Obed, Thomas, Jonathan, Benjamin), born at Dartmouth, Mass., in 1762. He served in the Revolutionary Army as follows: Private, Captain Henry Jenne's Company, Colonel John Hathaway's (2d Bristol County) regiment; enlisted August 2, 1780; discharged August 8, 1780; service six days, on an alarm at Rhode Island. Roll dated Dartmouth.


He married, January 18, 1784, Hannah, daughter of Lemuel and Sarah (Bourne) Mandell. (see Family Bible page at right) She was born in 1763 and died September 25, 1844. He lived in Fairhaven, Mass., and died November 18, 1815."
