Richard enlisted at Quincy, Ill on 23 February 1865 as a volunteer in Illinois 59th Infantry Regiment Illinois in the Civil War. He was honorably discharged at New Braumfels, Texas 8 December 1865. Personal description; height 5 feet 7; complexion, light; eyes, blue; hair, light; occupation, farmer. He lived in Honey Creek Township.
