His oldest child was born in North Carolina in 1856 then he and his family are listed on the1860 census in Watson. Several branches of the Watson family from North Carolina settled there also.
Elbert joined the Union Army during the Civil War. He enlisted as a Private in Company "E" 1st Regiment of Tennessee Volunteers, enrolled on August 20, 1861 at Camp Dick Robinson for a term of three years.
In August of 1863 he became disabled & was sent to the Camp hospital where his unit was stationed. Further information said the soldier was detached to work at the hospital about May 1864 and remained as such until his discharge.
He received an Honorable Discharge in Nashville, Tennessee on November 29, 1864 by reason of expiration of term of service. (Has Union military headstone).

Eb and Tilda had six children all are listed here except for son Jake who has so far eluded any records except for one census record. Shortly after his wife Matilda passed away Eb married a widow woman Louisa Hembree Barnes (widow of Chapley Barnes) who lived close by. He spent the remainder of his life in Hebbertsburg. Have found no record of where Louisa or his son Jake are buried.
