John Westrick, whose death, after a lingering illness, occurred Wednesday, May 1st, was born in Civilbatch, Bavaria, May 30, 1839. He came with his parents to this country in 1852 and settled in the township of China near the Belle River Mills. In 1862 he was married to Miss Catherine Schunck of the same place. Nine children were born to them, of whom seven survive him. since their marriage they have resided on their farm in China on what is known as the North Road, where he has been a kind husband and a loving father, always esteemed for his integrity and true nobility of character. There was nothing dishonest or dishonorable in his make up is whole being was molded on the high type of sterling uprightness, constituting a grand, good man, in whose death China loses one of her best citizens and one whose loss will be generally felt by all who knew him. His remains were followed last Friday morning by one of the largest processions that ever came to this city and the funeral services were held at the St. Mary's church, Rev. Fr. Maschino officiating.
