Kindly, Cheery "Peanut Lady" Happy as 61st Wedding Anniversary Nears:

Tomorrow Mrs. Lorraina Foreman "The Peanut Lady," and George Washington Foreman will celebrate their sixty-first wedding anniversary. This cheerful little lady has greeted downtown Baton Rougeans almost daily for the past 12 years. She is a familiar sight with her basket of peanuts.

Mr. and Mrs. Foreman were married at the Methodist Church in Amite County, May 31, 1888, by the Rev. Ed. Forman, first cousin of the groom, the day before Mrs. Foreman's 14th birthday. The 17 year-old groom took his 13 year-old bride to the farm where they resided more than 30 years.

Because of crop failure and ill health Mr. Foreman gave up farming and they moved to McComb, MS., where they both worked in a cotton mill, and Mrs. Foreman occasionally did practical nursing. Desiring to see their daughter in Cincinnati, they traveled there, where Mrs. Foreman worked in a restaurant. The couple stayed for a time with another daughter in Grand Rapids, Mich; where Mrs. Foreman again worked in a restaurant and George Foreman ran an elevator. Their love of the South recalled them, and they lived successively in Cleveland and Meridian, MS., and Delhi, Louisiana.

When work failed, Mrs. Foreman began selling peanuts in Baton Rouge. She has sold other things, too. She lives in Istrouma, and until last year supported two orphaned grandchildren, Mary Lou and Norman Forman.

Four years ago tragedy struck the family when Mrs. Foreman fell in a grocery store, and doctors said she would never walk again. "Doctors said I'd never get well, but I said I would and I did," she volunteered.

Several years ago Georgia Bates, a daughter, broke her back, and Mr. Foreman went to live with the invalid in Pike County. As often as possible he comes to Baton Rouge to be with Mrs. Foreman.

On the eve of her wedding anniversary, Mrs. Foreman commented: "I ain't never wanted nobody else and if he has he ain't let me know about it." George was tickled and said, "She's had to keep me. She's too good-looking for me to quit her-better looking than all my children."

The Foremans had 12 children, seven of whom are living. From Ohio to California may be found the Foremans, Hyman Foreman, Phoniex Ariz; Esther Jackson, Alexandria, LA., Mattie Webber, Cincinnati, Ohio; Genny Richardson, Pike County, MS.; Georgia Battes, Pike County, Sarah Rollinson, Amite, MS., and Artimisa "Measey" Gerard, Los Angeles, Calif.

On their fiftieth anniversary the Foremans had a big celebration at their daughters, Sarah. Last year a downtown bakery presented the couple with an anniversary cake with candies and the date of the wedding. Their wedding anniversary tomorrow will find the couple at their home in Istrouma with their only living son, Hyman.

Mrs. Foreman, who is 74, came to have her picture taken in her regular business suit, a gray skirt and hat and a blue blouse. Mr. Foreman, was coatless and wore gray trousers and a gray felt hat. He was especially proud of his shiny new shoes, his wife's anniversary gift. He refused to shave, even for the occasion of having his picture taken.
