William L. Rodgers
Following is the account of the life of Mr. W.L. Rodgers whose death was recorded last week and whose funeral was held Thursday of last week.
William Leander Rodgers was born June 7, 1871, near Gentry, Mo., and passed away March 4, 1929 at Nebraska City, at the age of 57 years, 8 months and 25 days.
Being in poor health for several months he decided to undergo an operation hoping to regain his health. Complications set in and his condition was such that all that medical science and loving hands could do were of no avail.
At the age of sixteen he came to Otoe County with his parents, Hezekiah and Matilda Rodgers where he remained practically the rest of his life. Four years of this time was spent in Missouri, ten years near Syracuse and the remainder near Hopewell.
He was united in marriage with Cora Pratt August 31, 1898. To this union was born one son, Famous Merle.
His mother, father, one brother and five sisters preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, son, three sisters, Mrs. A. M. Huff and Mrs. John Ball of Gentry, Mo., Mrs. F.W. Klintworth of Teriton, Oklahoma. Two brothers, T. S. Rodgers of Cozad, Nebr., and G.W. Rodgers of Syracuse, one granddaughter Alta Ruth, and a host of relatives and friends.
He was an unusually patient sufferer and because of his cheerful disposition was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
The funeral was held Thursday, March 7, at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church, Syracuse. Rev. R. Elkin of Hopewell preached the sermon, assisted by Rev. O. U. McProad of Syracuse. The pallbearers were: Bryan Siegal, O. G. Stoner, Everett Motherhead, Charles Beach, Jim Lemmon and Chas. Watson. Interment was made in the Park Hill Cemetery northeast of Syracuse.
