Friends in this city were saddened Monday to learn of the death that morning in St. Paul of Mrs. Ward A. Rued. Mrs. Rued went to St. Paul from her home at Woodworth, N.D., a couple of weeks ago because of the illness of her youngest son, James Oliver, who since that time has been a patient at St. Joseph's hospital. Until the Monday previous to her death, Mrs. Rued had enjoyed the best of health, when she became ill at the home of her sister, Mrs. C. A. McCabe. Her condition did not become alarming until Saturday, when in a last, but doubtful hope, she was removed to St. Joseph's hospital and prepared for an operation that evening. From this she rallied and greeted her husband, mother and sisters Sunday morning and told them she soon would be well again. Her mother, Mrs. C. Aberle, and sisters, Mrs. P. J. Noonan and Miss Flora Aberle, were called to the city Saturday evening. Another sister, Miss Clara Aberle of Burlington, Iowa, also was called. Later during the day Mrs. Rued's condition became critical and she passed away Monday morning, Dec. 4. General peritonitis was the cause of death.
Lillian Marie Aberle was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Aberle and was born in this city July 15, 1890. She died at the age of 32 years, 4 months and 19 days. She was of an exceptionally happy and cheerful disposition and the taking of this young mother from her three small children is deeply deplored by her host of friends.
She was a graduate of the Alexandria high school class of 1911. That same year, on Oct. 11, in this city, she was united in marriage to Ward A. Rued of Woodworth, N.D., which has ever since been her home. Three children, two sons and one daughter, were born of this union, Parker, Elinore and Oliver James.
Besides her husband and children, Mrs. Rued is survived by her mother, Mrs. C. Aberle, and two brothers and five sisters, who are Fred of Tacoma, Wash., and Raymond Aberle of Woodworth, N.D., and Mrs. C. A. McCabe and Miss Rebecca Aberle of St. Paul, Miss Clara Aberle of Burlington, Iowa, Mrs. P. J. Noonan and Miss Flora Aberle of this city. She also leaves Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Rued, parents of Mr. Rued of Woodworth, N.D.
The body, accompanied by relatives arrived here Tuesday afternoon and was taken to the home of her mother, where funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 6, conducted by Rev. A. T. Tjornhom of the Norwegian Lutheran church. Burial was made in the Aberle family lot in Kinkead cemetery. The pallbearers were C. F. Raiter, C. A. Kolstad, Walter Hubbell, J. E. Wegener, Arthur Roth and J. P. Wettleson.
