Flora Forkel was born in Alexandria, Minnesota, on October 11, 1894, the daughter of Christian and Christina (Hess) Aberle. She grew to womanhood in this area, and worked as a teacher for several years. On December 14, 1933, Flora was united in marriage to Fritz Forkel in Alexandria. The couple owned and operated the Blue Ribbon Bakery for several years. Following Fritz's death, Flora lived at the Birchwood apartments, was one of the first people to move into the Viking Towers where she lived for sixteen years, and had lived the last six months at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home. She was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Flora died March 1, 1987 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home at the age of 92 years. She is survived by sister and brother-in-law: Rebecca and Robert Seng of St. Paul; nieces Barbara Seng of St. Paul and Pat Bryan of Las Vegas, Nevada; nephews: Robert Seng of St. Paul and Jim Noonan and wife Mary of Phoenix, Arizona.
Funeral services were March 4, 1987 at the Anderson Funeral Chapel, Alexandria, Minnesota, with Rev. Stephen Bruening officiating. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Danny Nack, Carl Splittgerber, Merlin Roth, Gary Nack, Harold Bartz, Clifford Peterson and Art Stanz. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home.
