Matthew was born to Matthew Stubbert and Emma Edith Cordell. Matthew and Emma were married in Nanaimo in 1900, Matthew Jr. was born in 1901 on Salt Spring Island near Nanaimo. In 1902 Matthew's father drowned and Emma relocated to Seattle. Emma married George Allen in 1906 and Matthew took his step father's name. Matthew Allen died of pneumonia brought on by influenza at aged 17 years.

Beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. George L. Allen. 1507 Fairview Ave. Funeral services will be held in the parlors of Bonney-Watson Co., 1702 Broadway. Tuesday afternoon, at 4 o'clock. Interment at Lakeview cemetery.
