Born Pine River Twp., Gratiot Co. Michigan. Son of Martha Amine Packard and John Wesley Doane(8), Erastus(7), Joeph(6), Daniel(5), Elnathan(4), Israel(3), Daniel(2), Deacon John Doane(1). Md. Kate Campbell on March 1, 1888. Mr. Doane attended Yerrinton College in St. Louis, MI. He was an excellent penman and won prizes at the county fair with his pen and ink drawings. After his marriage, they lived on a farm near Shepherd where their daughters were born, later moving to a farm near Alma, MI, where Mr. Doane managed a group of large farms. He had interests in lumber lands in the northern Peninsula and Miss., raised a fine livestock and his entrees won many prizes at fairs. Moved to City of Alma in 1908 where he engaged in real estate and lumber business. Among his associates, he was recognized as a man of importance, interested in civic affairs; to his employees, he was considerate, strict and fair; dedicated to his family; generous and kind. He was a trustee in the Presbyterian Church. 2 children. Cemetery transcription has 04/08/1927 listed as date of burial; DFA book has death date as 04/09/1927.
