John H. Flynt 85, died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am today at Midway Baptist Church in Jackson. Visitation is after 9 am and burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Flynt was born in Mt Olive, MS. He was the son of the late Vernon Flynt and Katie Corine Flynt.
Proudly, Mr. Flynt served our country in the US Army during World War II. He was a military policeman who served in General Eisenhower's motorcade.
He was a longtime resident of Clinton and a faithful member of Midway Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Gideon's.
Mr. Flynt was an employee of South Central Bell, and retired after 37 dedicated years to them.
He was the President and an umpire for the Youth League Baseball in Jackson and an official for the Ms High School Activities Association in football, basketball and baseball. He was also the District 6 Commissioner for the Amateur Softball Association and a member of the Hall of Fame with 50 years of service.
Mr. Flynt enjoyed spending time with his coffee club and loved going fishing but more than that he was an avid Ole Miss Rebel fan.
Preceding him in death is his first wife of 42 years, Frances Alexander Flynt and daughter, Vicki Lynn Pace. He is also preceded in death by four brothers, Alton, Earl, Ellis and Robert and two sisters, Jewel and Katie.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Dorothy Kinard Flynt of Clinton; sons, Johnny Flynt and his wife, Joann of Oxford and Bobby Flynt and his wife, Lynn of Clinton; stepchildren, Bobby Kinard and his wife, Janet of Chunky and Peggy Smith and her husband, Tim of Tyler, TX; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
