Milton Richard "Mitt" Jones. Born in Newton County, Mississippi. Husband of Pernicia Jane Cooksey. Son of William Johnson Jones and Dianah Adams Johnson. Buried next to his wife, and near two of his brothers, John W. Jones and Elisha Johnson Jones. In the 1870s, Mitt was among the founding members of Midway Baptist Church, in Newton County, Mississippi. Between 1888 and 1893, Mitt and Pernecia were drawn to the productive farm land in Texas. They moved their family there, and two daughters were born in Texas - Mattie Lou, and Ethel Mae. Between 1896 and 1899, the family returned to Newton County, Mississippi. Their final child, James Melton, was born there in 1900, and almost immediately, the family returned to Goree, in Knox County, Texas, where they remained. They made their journeys from Mississippi to Texas with several other families from Newton County, many of them related, and most of them buried in this cemetery.
