Enlistment Date: 15 Jun 1861 Company A, 47th Ohio Infantry. He was a drummer.
Age 19, putting his birth 1842. Birthplace Ohio.
Mustered out 8 October 1861.

Enlistment Date: 6 Feb 1865
Mustered out 9 May 1865 at Tod Barracks, Columbus, Ohio.

His first wife was Hester Gillard, married 15 October 1863 Warren county, Ohio. They had three children: Helen, Allen D., and Lucy Cowan.

His second wife was Elizabeth Ballam, married about 1876 in Utah. they had three children: Charles, Clarence, and Elizabeth. These children were later adopted by their mother's second husband Arnold Goodliffe and took the surname Goodliffe.

His third wife was Clara Countryman, married 17 February 1897 Lucas county, Ohio. They had one son Harold.

At the time of his death he was living in the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Los Angeles.
