Wilbur Hasenbank, 70, of Westfield, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 05, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2009, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Wilbur Carl Hasenbank was born November 4, 1938 on the family farm near Akron, Iowa, the son of Carl and Edna (Leckband) Hasenbank. He attended country school near Akron and later Akron High School. Following his schooling, he began his building career. Wilbur started working for Younglove Construction in Sioux City, IA, helping build grain elevators in many communities. He also helped his father on the family farm near Akron.

Wilbur was united in marriage to Joyce Toben on August 11, 1959 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. Later, Wilbur did general contracting in the Akron area for a short time. He later worked for Dan O'Brien and Developers and Associates in Elk Point and Weinberg Investments in Sioux City. For the past several years, Wilbur did general contracting in the Akron and Westfield areas. In 2006, Wilbur retired after several decades in contracting and building.

Wilbur was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. He enjoyed woodworking and building things out of wood. He could fix and repair just about anything. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of over 49 years, Joyce of Westfield; 6 children: David Hasenbank of Merrill, IA, Julie Hughes and her husband Milo of Westfield, IA, Janet Martin of Akron, IA, Mike Hasenbank of Elk Point, SD, Wes Hasenbank of Akron, IA, and Melissa Rollins and her husband Keith of Akron, IA; 16 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; 2 brothers: Vernon Hasenbank and his wife Kathy of Vermillion, SD, and Marvin Hasenbank and his wife Linda of Sioux Falls, SD; 2 sisters: Viola Gabel and her husband Eldon "Fritz" of Akron, IA, and Caroline Gradert and her husband Robert of Sioux Center, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother in law: John and Gladys Toben; and a son: Brian Keith Hasenbank.
