James was the son of John Calhoun and
Sarah (Reece) Freeman. He was born
near Big Flat, Searcy Co. This area
later became Baxter County.

He married Arvilla Jane Woody 7 Aug
1892 in Big Flat. They had nine
children: James A b. 1893; Jesse Aubrey
b. 1894 (buried in Grandview Cem. in
Searcy Co.); John W. b. 1896; Samuel
Ardie b. 1898 (buried in Grandview Cem.);
Mary C. b. 1901; Tennesse P. b. 1903;
Chas. T. b. 1905; Laura M. b 1907 and
Verlie M. b. 1909.

the community of Ferris in Stone Co.,
Arkansas.)
