When about 28 years old Mr. Ward moved to Town Creek where he was married. Ten years later he moved to Smithville township, near Lockwoods Folly and lived there until his death. Mrs. Ward died in 1872.
Mr. Ward was well known all over Brunswick county as a successful farmer and stock raiser. He was a member of Antioch Baptist church and took great interest in church affairs. He was chiefly instrumental in the building of Antioch church. The only public office ever held by Mr. Ward was many years ago when he was deputy sheriff under Sheriff Hankins.
David Ward, his son, survives him and lives at the farm at Lockwoods Folly. The other child, a daughter, died several years ago.
