Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Baier Funeral Home, Watseka, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Joseph Hughes will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Watseka.
Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation, to his son, Ryan's education or to the donor's choice.
He was born Sept. 4, 1945 in Chebanse, the son of Rudolph and Anna Marie Rabideau Ahrens Sr. His parents are deceased, along with one sister, Geraldine Hinrichs, one brother, Francis and one brother-in-law, Clarence Kennedy.
Surviving are his wife, the former Sheryl ''Sherry'' Dukes, whom he married June 27, 1971 in Watseka; three sons, Robert Ahrens of Watseka, Shawn Ahrens of Eagle Grove, Iowa and Ryan Ahrens at home; seven sisters and six brothers- in-law, Doris and Tom Taber, Betty Ahrens, Reta and Ken Myers and Don Hinrichs, all of Watseka, Kay and Jim Green of Georgetown, Lois Kennedy of Milford, Ruth and Harold Salm of Martinton and Anita and Darrell Speers of Palm Bay, Fla.; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Rudy and Pat Ahrens and Karen Ahrens, all of Watseka.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1968-69.
He was of the protestant faith.
Mr. Ahrens was a 19-year pressman at Capital Products, Kentland, Ind.
