Ronald Horace "Shorty" Everett, age 68, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on April 30, 2009. He was a member of Piney Level Baptist Church. Mr. Everett retired from the Aluminum Company of America after 36 years of service and was a member of the 25 year club. As a direct descendant of one of the original families of Cades Cove, his knowledge of the mountain people and their way of life was extensive. He set an example for all with his devotion to his family and the love and honor he showed for 49 years to his faithful wife, Zelda. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Mamie Everett. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Zelda Cooper Everett; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Randal Mathes; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Teresa, Bobby and Suzanne, and Mike and Tina Everett; grandchildren, Jared and Joshua Everett, David Payne, Ashlynn and Brandon Everett, and Tonya Russell; sisters, Reba Jo Cope, and Wanda Hodge and husband, Max; brothers, Kenneth and wife, Charlene, and Don and wife, Lula Everett; beloved sister-in-law, Norma Cooper-O'Dell and husband, James; brothers-in-law, Charles and wife, Janie Cooper and Allen and wife, Shirley Cooper; several nieces and nephews; special aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Jim Everett; aunt, Mary Ruth Everett; and his beloved 2nd momma, Weezie England. Funeral service will be held 7:00 PM Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Miller Funeral Home, Cedar Chapel, with Rev. George Macht officiating. The interment service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Chilhowee View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
