John A. Smeltzer, 82
NEW LEXINGTON - John A. Smeltzer, 82, passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at Genesis Good Samaritian Hospital.
He was born March 18, 1925, in New Lexington. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, a retired auto body mechanic for Ray's Body Shop, a World War II Army veteran, a member of American Legion Post 188 and a member of the New Lexington Eagles 2070.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Imelda "Mel" Kunkler Smeltzer; his children, Rita (Scott) Ervin, Janet Wainwright and Linda (Steve) Coffman of New Lexington; seven grandchildren, Billy (Amanda) Walker of Carlsbad, Calif., Kelly Walker of Junction City, Courtney Walker of Columbus, Carrie Wainwright of New Lexington, Adam (Andrea) Wainwright of New Lexington, Krisite (Kurt) Torres of Zanesville and Jordan Coffman of New Lexington; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Moyer of Columbus and Pauline Richards of New Lexington; and four brothers, Donald of Columbus, Richard of New Lexington, Joseph of Newark and Frederick "Ted" of Frazeysburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ambrose and Mary Metzger Smeltzer; a sister, Ruth Gordan Little; and two brothers, James Smeltzer and Charles Smeltzer.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 24, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, at the Chute-Wiley Funeral Home, 118 S. Jackson St., New Lexington. Rosary services are 3:45 p.m., Legion services at 7 p.m. and Eagles services at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Junction City, with Father James Csaszar as celebant. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery with full military graveside rites.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 309 Main St., New Lexington, Ohio 43764.
