OBITUARY THE HAVENSVILLE REVIEW 27 AUGUST 1942
Winfred Allard, second child of Perley and Lucy Allard, was born in Dallas county, Iowa, October 16, 1876 and passed away at St. John's Hospital at Rapid City, S. D. the 16th day of August, lacking 2 months of having reached his 66th birthday.
When he was 3 years old his family moved from Iowa to Kansas and lived in the vicinity of Soldier. Here he grew to manhood and in seeking a climate to benefit his health went to Dakota in 1903.
By nature he possessed a strong will quietly determining what he thought right and best, then holding to the decision.
He received a grant for a homestead and in the fall of 1917 established a livestock business near Faith, S. D. which he has made his work the past 25 years. Here with his herds of sheep, he has gone his quiet unassuming way, building for himself a circle of staunch friends and associates who honor him for high integrity and characteristics of clean manhood.
He was generous in contributing to churches and other worthy organizations. Fred Allard's word was as "good as gold" in the open range country where he lived and ran his herds season in and out.
The Indians with whom he had frequent transactions were open and sincere in their grief at the news of the death of their friend.
He reached out to encourage young men to good habits of industry and made gifts to encourage them. His habits of living were simple; he read much and stored in mind with things which made him a good companion.
He was married to Mrs. Mayme Adams of Philip, S. D. January 8, 1942, and we are sad that this relationship and his established home was so quickly ended.
Besides Mrs. Allard, his beloved sister Mrs. Kitty Ellis of Havensville, is the only immediate family. Chan, his older brother died very recently.
Nieces and nephews, children of Chan Allard and of Mrs. Ellis, with their families, mourn the loss of an Uncle whose memory will be cherished, for his watchword was kindness.

Chauncey Allard passed away, August 4th at his home in Bell Garden, California. He is a brother of Mrs. C. H. Ellis and has many friends in Jackson and Pottawatomie counties.
