Emery O. Wilkie was born in New York, probably his parents were Matthew Wilkie and Phebe Smith. If so, he was probably born in Jefferson County, New York, as were many of his brothers and sisters.
Emery left Jefferson County, crossing into Canada, which was very easy to do as the Wilkies lived near Alexandria Bay, on the St. Lawrence Seaway. Where in Canada he went has not been discovered, but he married Rachel Brooks before 1847 and had his children in Canada. The Wilkies came to St. Clair County, Michigan in the mid 1860s.
I hope to be able to do more research of the lives of Emery and Rachel Wilkie. I am glad to have finally found who I think is the "missing" child of Matthew and Phebe Wilkie.
