Deed info. associated with Congress Lake Farm indicates Conrad Brumbaugh received a deed for land from James Monroe on Jul 29, 1819.
In 1902 Harry B. Stewart I and Minnie Taylor Stewart bought the property from an Estate Auction. They were the only one who bid on the property. They built the currect farm house, still standing, by adding on to a 2 story log cabin belonging to one of Conrad's Sons. Harry B. Stewart II and Catherine Seiberling Stewart continued to live in the house. In 1975 they deed 798 acres to the State for 1/2 the value.
Today this property is known as Quail Hollow State Park.
This cemetery is now located in Quail Hollow State Park. Conrad's gravestone is encased in a wooden frame to safeguard it from further deterioration. He was the first settler in this area.
Conrad served in the 4th Maryland Battalion in the Revolutionary War.
Conrad's first wife died (Possibly in chilbirth with their 8th child Henry. She is buried in Pennsylvania.
2nd wife was Catherine Markley and their 1st child was born in Stark Count in 1807. The rest of the stones here are believed to be Conrad's children.
The stones are becoming impossible to read.
Records from earlier visitors notes, "these are sons and daughter's of Conrad's children He fathered fifteen children. He had two sets of twins. None died in infancy.
