A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Carlisle October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service at Chambersburg, Franklin County, November 4 with Co. K, 158th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was promoted to 1st sergeant February 14, 1863, and honorably discharged with his company August 12, 1863.
In 1870, he resided with his family in Newburg, Cumberland County, but was living in Macon County, Illinois, by no later than 1880.

Festus McClure died at 5:30 o'clock Thursday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Bailey of 929 West Decatur street.
Mr McClure was 75 years old. He was stricken with paralysis several years ago and never entirely recovered. Of late he had been troubled with gall stones which finally caused his death.
Mr McClure was one of the old settlers of Decatur. He was born in Pennsylvania, in 1828. He joined a Pennsylvania regiment and served with it throughout the war. He came to Decatur in 1871. He
was a member of Dunham post. No. 141 G.A.R. He is survived by his wife and seven sons and daughters. His children are Mrs W. H. Bailey, wife of former Police Captain Bailey, James McClure and Mrs. John Westhafer of Decatur E.S. McClure of Bloomington; Harve McClure of Westfleld, Mass.; Mrs. Anthony Breath of Chatsworth; and Mrs. Alice Toland of Metcalf, Il.
The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the residence of W.H. Bailey. Dunham
post G.A.R. will have charge of the funeral. The body will be buried in the Boiling Springs cemetery.
