On 8 Sep 1885, Samuel Devine (B: ~1859, Crittenden County, Kentucky) enlisted in Company A of the 9th Cavalry Regiment (Buffalo Soldier Regiment) in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was described as black eyes, black hair, black complexion, 5 feet 5-3/4 inches. He was "accidentally killed" at Fort Niobrara, Nebraska (Army Enlistments).

In July 1907, Private Samuel Devine (D: 26 Jul 1886) was re-interred in the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Kansas; Plot: G-3552. He had served with Company A, 9th US Cavalry. Pvt Devine was originally interred in Fort Niobrara Cemetery, Nebraska (Record of Internment).
