Royalty, son of the "Winterking" Friedrich V von der Pfalz and Elisabeth Stuart. He came to France, where he converted to Catholicism in 1645 to marry Anna Gonzaga, Princess of Mantua and Nevers. After the "Act of Settlement" he and his daughters were excluded from the line of succession to the English throne and his nephew Georg Ludwig of Hanover succeeded queen Anne.
