ALBERT DAY DIES AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS

Albert Day born March 6, 1852 in England, and died at his home in Fillmore August 17, 1928.

Mr. Day passed away after a prolonged illness, being confined to his bed for the last 15 months.

The deceased was converted to the LDS Church in his native land and came to the United States with his brother George when a very young man. Their brother John, who passed away a few months ago, came over a short time before them. Those of the family who were already over here, later sent for their parents and the other brothers and sisters, so the family was reunited here in Utah.

Mr. Day came directly to Fillmore, where he helped to build up the community. He was engaged in several skirmishes with the Indians during those early days. He was married to Sarah Hannah Maycock in 1878 in Fillmore, the couple later going through the Endowment house in Salt Lake City. To this union were born nine children, five of whom have preceded him to the grave. 23 years ago his first wife died.

He was married in 1903 to Julie Fletcher, who survives him.

The deceased was an industrious man, being engaged in many fields of activity during his lifetime. He was a good citizen, taking a prominent part in the politics of the city and county. For some years he owned and managed a drug store here. At other times he was engaged in farming and stock raising. He was a good husband and a kind and loving father, to whom his children often went for counsel and advise.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Fillmore Ward meeting house. The speakers were Judge Joshua Greenwood and Att'y Samuel A. King of Salt Lake and T. Clark Callister, all of whom spoke of the sterling worth of the man, also paying a tribute to his children. Musical numbers were rendered by the ward choir and a vocal solo, by T. Leo Jacobs. The funeral was very largely attended and the beautiful floral offering testified to the esteem in which he was held.

Those who survive him are his widow, Mrs. Julia Day, four children, Wm. Parley Day of Los Angeles, Owen Glen Day, Carl H. Day and Mrs. Olive B. Wilkins of Fillmore; also the following brothers and sisters; Mary Rowley, James Day, George Day, Miah Day and Charles Day.

Those who came from out of town to attend the funeral services were Judge and Mrs. Joshua Greenwood, Att'y Samuel A. King, and Mr. George Swallow of Salt Lake City, Mr. Parley Day of Los Angeles, Mrs. Oda Day and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Day of Oasis, Mr. and Mrs. George Day Jr., Mrs. Cora Maxfiled, Mrs. Rose McCullough and Mrs. Hillman Davies of Delta, and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Day of Aurora.

Mrs. Florence Byrum of Los Angeles, who was visiting with her brother, Mr. Jack Wilkins and family, also attended the funeral.

He married Sarah Hannah Maycock on 10 Feb 1878 in Fillmore Utah, she passed away in 1901, he then married Julia Fletcher on 3 Sep 1903 in Salt Lake City Utah.

He is the father of Sarah Alice, Albert Richard, Owen Glen, William Parley, Sidney Leonard, Olive Beatrice (Wilcken), Carl Homer, Melvina Amanda and Richard Carnell Day.
