Grace was the daughter of her late father, James Tillman "JT" Hughes, and mother, Magdalene "Maggie" Elizabeth Enix-Hughes. Grace was married to William Callaway Brown (1918-1991), and had one child, Leonard Calloway Brown (1949–2006).
