Jr. Maxey, as he was called by most people, was a big man and looked even more so standing next to his petite wife, Peepsie, who was less than 5 feet tall. She was the love of his life and he was a devoted husband and father.
Uncle Junior was a Marine in World War II . He served in the 2nd Division in some of the bloodiest battles in the Pacific. He fought on Saipan and Tinian, June 1944. I remember a story he told me about the death of the "Lone Ranger" The man died drinking torpedo antifreeze and was given the Purple Heart; Uncle Junior survived. I wish I had talked with him more; he was very quite about his service. I know he fought at Tarawa and Saipan--two of the worst. (Told to me from my cousin)
