J. W. Matthews Funeral Service Held Wednesday
Funeral services for Joseph W. Matthews, 68, who died Monday were conducted Wednesday at 3.m. from the Chapel of the Owens Funeral Home. The Rev. Marvin V. Steadman, past of the First Baptist church officiated and interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hubert Boston, DeWitt Presley, Paul Layton, Ward Reeves, Emory Boston and Ralph Brooks.
Mr. Matthews, a prominent farmer of White, Rt 1, died at the Emory University Hospital of Atlanta following a two weeks illness. He was born in Cherokee County, Feb. 18, 1878, the son of Joseph A Matthews and Lettice Jarvis Matthews.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his widow, the former Mrmeretta Brooks, two daughters, Louise Barron of Newark, N. J. Mrs. Stanley Mosley of Cartersville, one brother, S. A. Matthews of Owasso, Okla, five sisters, Mrs. J. J. Boston of White, Mrs. J. A. Layton of Stilleboro, Mrs. Fred Williams of Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Earl Boston of Oostanala, Ga and Mrs. Zack Reeves of Calhoun.
