William was a member of the organization "Woodmen of the World" and thus the reason for the stump of a tree for his headstone. Sadly, what put William in his grave was a simple ride out on his horse; his horse tripped in a prairie dog hole throwing William off. The fall broke his back and complications from that injury caused William's death.
